The Microsoft Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) is used to create a Virtual Private Network (VPN) between a PPTP client and server. It is used for remote access from roaming users to connect back to their corporate network over the Internet.
Anyone using the campus VPN network, vpn.net.rpi.edu, should be using this Anyconnect client. There are known issues with the built-in Mac OS client. When Cisco released version 7 of the operating system for PIX/ASA they dropped support for the firewall acting as a PPTP VPN device. Note: If you want to use PPTP you can still terminate PPTP VPNs on a Windows server, if you enable PPTP and GRE Passthrough on the ASA.
